How teachers are connected with their students of Tutorial Hub in this lock down?

Tutorial Hub is Helping educators and students stay connected

We are standing to help

As many educational institutions around the globe are undergoing, extending, or planning closures due to COVID-19, half of the world’s student population is unable to attend school. Educators face the challenge of teaching remotely at an unprecedented scale, and in some cases, for the first time.
In the last week we’ve created new distance learning resources including a collection of training materialsTeach from Home is a great educational resource created by Google in partnership with other parties (e.g., UNESCO and ISTE). It is "a temporary hub of information and tools to help teachers during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis". The site features a wide variety of resources to help teachers make the best of technology
There is a section that provides tips, strategies, and tools on how you can engage in remote teaching activities using video calls. For instance, you will get to learn how to 'set up your home for video calling', 'how to start a video call with your class', how to conduct 'live Q and A's with your class, and how to live stream your class. There is also another section with resources to help you with your distance teaching without the need for video calls.

We are with you

Tutorial Hub is a central hub of information, tips, training and tools from across Google for Education to help teachers keep teaching, even when they aren’t in the classroom.
To start, we’re providing an overview of how to get started with distance learning—for example how to teach online, make lessons accessible to students, and collaborate with other educators.
The resource will continue to evolve. We've built the hub with the support and cooperation of UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, who is also working with other education partners to respond to this emergency. As we continue receiving feedback from teachers and partners on what’s most helpful, we’ll continue to build and improve this. Teach From Home is currently available in English, with downloadable toolkits available in Danish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic and Polish, with additional languages coming soon.

I came up with a shortlist of what I would’ve liked my teachers to do had I been a student who was sent home due to COVID-19.

  1. Email your students to remind them that you are still there for them.
  2. Tell them how you are shifting your schedule to deal with the new situation and that change is part of life.
  3.  Humanize yourself and make it casual and lighthearted. Repeat some of the lessons you taught in class. Especially for those students who are missing the classroom environment, this will probably help activate their memory of being part of a community and remind them that they are still part of one
  4. Most important, ask each of your students how you can help them
  5. Remember that students have left behind more than just their classes and academics. On both residential and commuter campuses, there are important spaces where students meet and talk about their nonacademic lives -- sports, upcoming concerts, recently discovered shows, and so on. Consider creating a community discussion board for them to share what is happening in their lives, especially given the stress, fear, and strains in these uncertain times.
